The Iliad

Well, I guess all we ever read the Iliad, or at least hear something from her, like in the movie Troy, so this time I have mostly pictures and a brief summary of that question.

The Iliad (sometimes Referred to as the Song of Song of Ilium or Ilion) is an epic poem in dactylic hexameters, Attributed to Homer Traditionally. During The Trojan War in September, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy (Ilium) by a coalition of Greek states, it tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel Between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles.

Chimera

He was a monster that had the lion's head, goat's body and tail of a dragon, and cast fire and flames from his mouth. She was the daughter of Echidna and Typhon. The first was a huge giant with a hundred heads, which created the evils Juno vapors of the earth out of spite, when her husband Jupiter created to Pallas, who as you know was armed with her head out. Echidna had to wife, who had the female bust and the rest of the body of a serpent. They had for children, as well as the Chimera, the dog Cerberus, the Hydra of Lerna, the Sphinx and the Nemean Lion. Bellerophon fought this monster and killed him. What led to this absurd fable, was a mountain called Quimerífera, crowning a volcano, around which roamed lions, whose skirt grazing goats and snakes whose foot is raised; disassembled and populated mountain Bellerophon.

Well, as in every post, I give my opinion or I think so, haha .. well .. I think the chimera is a mixture of fabulous animals, the lion with his nobility, the dragon with his strength .. while the story I found this a bit incomplete, I think we give a brief review .. I regret not having found a better, no time now :c

Phoenix

Well, today we'll talk about one of the most beautiful creatures, strange and noble Greek mythology, is a bird, which has beautiful feathers ablaze, a look wise, and a respectable intelligence, when he dies, his ashes transformed into an egg, which is himself, that is the saying "Like a phoenix from my ashes revivire" I really love her, and I love this creature, here a little history;

"The phoenix or Phoenicoperus, as the Greeks knew, is a mythological bird the size of an eagle, feathered red, orange and yellow glow, strong beak and claws. According to some myths, lived in a region that included the area Middle East and India, reaching Egypt in North Africa. It was a fabulous bird reborn again from its own ashes. was quoted by the Egyptian priests of Heliopolis, the Greek Herodotus, Pliny the Latin writers Elder, Lucian, Ovid, Seneca, and Claudian Claudius, or the Christians Paul of Tarsus, St. Epiphanius of Salamis and St. Ambrose. According to legend Christianized, the phoenix lived in the Garden of Paradise, and nestled in a rosebush. When Adam and Eve were expelled from the sword of the angel who banished them came a spark that ignited the nest of the Phoenix, making them burn him and his tenant. As the only beast that had refused to taste the fruit of paradise, it was granted several gifts, the most prominent of immortality through the ability to rise from the ashes. When it was time to die, was a nest of spices and herbs, put a single egg, which hatched over three days, and the third burning days. The Phoenix was burned down completely, by reducing to ashes, the same egg resurgent phoenix, always unique and eternal. This happened five hundred years. "

"The Phoenix has its representations in different cultures, like China (Feng-Huang), Japan (the Ho-oo), Russia (The Firebird, which musically immortalized Stravinsky), the Egyptian (the Benu) The Hindu (Garuda), and even the Indians of North America (the Yel), or the Aztecs, Mayas and Toltecs (elQuetzal). was first mentioned by Hesiod in the eighth century BC and later and in more detail by the historian Herodotus. Medusa

Medusa

Medusa is one of the most anecdotal exist in Greek mythology, were part of the Gorgons and their parents were Forcis and Ceto, but Medusa was a feature that differentiated it from the rest of the Gorgons, as it was the only mortal and more beautiful than her sisters.
Her beauty was so great that it became dazzling Poseidon to be in love with Medusa decided to seduce her (for some rather it was a violation), in the temple of Athena. This sparked a rivalry between Athena and Poseidon, and rivals in itself. Athena's anger was so great to have known of what happened in his temple, his immediate reaction was to punish Medusa, which became equal to his two sisters, Stheno and Euryale. Both were just soulless monsters with brass hands and sharp teeth, and eyes that emitted a light so that whoever looked at them directly, would freeze.
Not content with this punishment, Aphrodite was jealous of the beautiful hair that had Medusa, why in the punishment was that instead of hair are available snakes in this way, Medusa was banished to live in Hyperborean lands .
From that casual affair that took place between Poseidon and Medusa, there was a pregnancy, which only served to increase the anger of Athena, which orders Perseus to kill Medusa.
Perseus on his mission, which was almost impossible to perform, had to wear winged sandals that Hermes had given him. This additional protection prevented him from the gaze of Medusa, and a very bright shield, so that if it came at him, could repel the attack of the deadly light in his eyes. Luckily did not need to use it, as he waited for Medusa was asleep in his lair. Perseus flying with his sandals, it succeeded beyond cutting off Medusa's head in one spot.
With this cut, by the middle of the neck of Medusa, left her children, Pegasus and giant Chrysaor. Medusa's head was to Athena, who used it as a shield in all his battles, as it did previously to rescue Perseus and Andromeda to kill Polydectes.
The blood of the beheading of Medusa was jealously guarded by the end that only Gods known as the blood from his vein left came to represent a deadly poison, and his right hand, had healing properties that are used even to raise the dead.

To me, this poor Gorgon was a cruel fate, as Poseidon raped her in the temple of his enemy, Athena (♥) and is not responsible for their actions, as every god did. Athena, thirsting for revenge punishes the poor by giving Medusa whim to Aphrodite, jealous and pretentious. Poor woman!

This post will have pictures for inconvenience, the next will be a gallery of images of Medusa. -

Athenea

Athena

In Greek mythology, Athena is the daughter of Zeus, was born as an adult, his face when he opened Hephaestus split his head with an ax to cure him of the pain that tormented him.Athena is the goddess of wisdom, arts and crafts. It represents the creative intelligence. Is patron saint of potters, weavers, builders and other craftsmen. It is a warrior goddess, but lacks the violent and unreflective of Ares, but uses the prudent courage, as seen in the Iliad. It also embodies the intelligence (the figure clearly inherited from her mother) and wisdom.

He is regarded as one of the most beautiful architectural constructions of humanity. It was built between 447 and 432 B.C. by architects and Callicrates Ictinus under the supervision of Phidias author of the sculptural decoration and a large statue of Athena in gold and ivory.

Birth
It sprang from the head of Zeus. He was married to Metis, he swallowed when he learned she was pregnant, as it had predicted that his son would dethrone him. At the time of delivery, Zeus asked Hephaestus to open its skull with an ax: Athena was born from his head with a cry of war and as an adult.

To be honest, I love Athena character is one of the goddesses that I feel I represent, because of his intelligence, his "claw" and the dominance it imposes, as always, I have too long to write! I hope to write soon.

My favorite mythology

My favorite is the Greek mythology, which speaks of many gods of Olympus, and many interesting things. Greek mythology is explicit in an extensive collection of narratives and implicitly in representational arts such as painted pottery and votive offerings. The Greek Myths attempt to explain the origins of the world and detail the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, heroes and mythological creatures. These stories were originally made in an oral poetic tradition, but myths are known today primarily through Greek literature.
